EDITORial REview : By JamericanMan
This came to my attention from an article in Freerisa Newsletter and I was appalled and disappointed to read this.
Seniors Citizens the majority of whom have made this Country what it is Today, by working hard and unlike people Today, they made the necessary sacrifices to keep the good ship USA afloat and sailing smoothly and now that many are not able to fend for themselves anymore this is how our gratitude is shown.
Many of these Seniors worked hard all their lives doing the right things, keeping the USA on top of the heap, for this reward?
Many of them are in Nursing homes, Senior Apts, etc, some are incapacitated, in wheel chairs, bed ridden etc.
They have no means of generating extra income to match the constantly rising Inflation Rate to whose pain they too are subjected.
It is a shame indeed that this Nation that use to pride itself on taking care of the under-privilaged of this World is now "shooting" its wounded.
They may be Seniors, Veterans and People with disabilities but they are still Citizens and it our responibility to make certain they are taken care of before all others.
Shame on the Government , shame on the Social Security Administration.
This is pretty close to home for me as my Mom who is 80 y.o worked until she was in her late 70's, I know how hard she worked down through the years.
Today if not for her children it would be extremely difficult for her to make it.
Nearly 54 million retirees and other Americans won't see an increase in their monthly retirement checks. It is the first time in 35 years there have been back to back years when benefits did not increase.
These normally automatic increases are tied to the Consumer Price Index(CPI) and the recent announcement came moments after the Labor Department released CPI figures for the third quarter which showed prices this year were 1.5 percent higher than a year ago.
While many segments of the population benefited from the Obama administration's stimulus plans, older Americans are feeling the pinch of the weak economy, a Washington Post report said.
"Older Americans need relief, not cuts to Social Security to reduce a deficit they didn't cause"
President Obama will renew his call for a $250 Economic Recovery Payment to veterans, seniors and people with disabilities, so says the White House.
Last year, 56 million people benefited from the first Economic Recovery Payment, including about 50 million Social Security beneficiaries..
The lack of a cost-of-living adjustment affects several groups of people in addition to the nation's 38 million retirees 65 and older.
They include family members of workers who died prematurely and people who qualify for Social Security disability payments.
The typical retiree receives a Social Security payment of about $1,200 per month, highrollers :-|
Come on President Obama and your Merry Men lets get this thing fixed, lets get this wrong righted and get these folks the help they deserve.

Lindsey Lohan's meltdown......here's why!!!
There has been a lot of talk about Lindsey and her many issues.

WEDNESDAY, Aug. 11 (HealthDay News) -- Menstrual cramps are often dismissed as a mere nuisance, but new research suggests the monthly misery may be altering women's brains.
Researchers in Taiwan used a type of brain scan known as optimized voxel-based morphometry to analyze the anatomy of the brains of 32 young women who reported experiencing moderate to severe menstrual cramps on a regular basis for several years, and 32 young women who did not experience much menstrual pain.
Even when they weren't experiencing pain, women who had reported having bad cramps had abnormalities in their gray matter (a type of brain tissue), said study author Dr. Jen-Chuen Hsieh, a professor of neuroscience at the Institute of Brain Science at National Yang-Ming University in Taipei, Taiwan.
Those differences included abnormal decreases in volume in regions of the brain believed to be involved in pain processing, higher-level sensory processing and emotional regulation, as well as increases in regions involved in pain modulation and regulation of endocrine function.
Exactly how the changes in the brain could affect women's experience of pain is unknown, researchers said. But the brain abnormalities suggest that menstrual pain may have similarities with other chronic pain conditions in that over time, repeated bouts of excruciating aches make the brain unusually sensitive to pain -- in effect, making the experience of pain worse.
"A long-term bombardment by peripheral pain can elicit plastic changes in the central brain as a reactive adaptation," Hsieh explained. "It can also be a crucial mechanism that perpetuates the 'chronification' of pain" -- that is, a mechanism that can turn pain into a lingering affliction.
The study is published in the September issue of PAIN.
Menstrual cramps, or pain in the lower abdomen that occurs when the uterus contracts during menstruation, is the most common gynecological disorder in women of childbearing age, according to background information in the article.
Karen J. Berkley, a professor emeritus of neuroscience and psychology at Florida State University, said menstrual pain is too often not taken seriously.
"This is one of the first groups to call attention to menstrual cramps, the fact that the condition can have an impact on women's lives, and it's accompanied by changes in brain anatomy and function," Berkley said.
Previously, the Taiwanese team reported that women suffering from menstrual cramps also have differences in brain activity as seen by positron emission tomography, another type of brain scan.
"Taken together, those two studies point to the fact that this continual cyclical pain in women is not unimportant," Berkley said.
Many have tried to explain why she does the self destructive things she does.
I think the following Article gives a good explanation,
what do you think?
Also fellows here is the skinny on why the wife, girlfriend, fiancee,
women in general get stir crazy at that time of the month.
Menstrual Cramps May Alter Women's Brains
Changes in gray matter may contribute to a worse experience of pain in general, study suggests.
By Jenifer Goodwin, HealthDay Reporter

WEDNESDAY, Aug. 11 (HealthDay News) -- Menstrual cramps are often dismissed as a mere nuisance, but new research suggests the monthly misery may be altering women's brains.

There was a show on the Discovery channel or one of the those Channel, about a young woman whose horse fell on her during a Barrel racing Tournament.
The long and short of it is that they got out on the course and the horse refused to go, in her exasperation the young woman pulled on the horse's bridle and the horse suddenly reared up throwing her to the ground and falling on her, she survived.
They discovered the Horse had a bad tooth and when she pulled on the reins the pain in the tooth caused the horse to react as it did almost killing the young woman, so then pain can cause one to do crazy things.
Now the next time Ms Lohan start to act crazy we should just figure it is that time of the month, give her a couple of Advil or Tylenol and tell her to call us in

WAIT, Wait, Wait.......Prop 8
As you have probably heard Judge Walker has struck down the California Law banning "same sex marriage"saying :
1. It violates due process.
2. It violates Equal protection under the Law
.
The thing that strikes me though is that it took Judge Walker 2 whole years to figure this out, what
about all the other Judges, Lawyers, Gay rights advocates etc? Was it so complicated that only the
"genius" of said judge could figure it out? He should be put in the Judges Hall of fame right now in a
glass case all by himself, he is too sharp to be sitting on a Court, a park bench maybe!
Ask any defense Lawyer and they will tell you that especially if the evidence is stacked against their client
or they lose the case, "Due Process" and "Equal Protection" are two of the most commonly use basis for appeals, especially in Civil right cases.
Well if I ever have to go too Court I would not use those Defense Lawyers(I could not afford them any way)
because they are incompetent, they have to be if they did not make sure their clients rights to "Due Process"
and "Equal Protection" was not violated, first thing.
This is just a case of Special Interest gone wild, somebody got paid real well, guess who? Could it be a certain Judge and his pals? Or could it be that this decision benefit he and his buds? See related article #1 below.
Here is a case of a comparatively small group - small in comparison to American and the World's populations
trying to get their way at whatever cost, regardless of the fact that their "lifestyle" is abhored
and considered MORALLY wrong by the WORLD at large.
They mis-interpret the fact that they are Tolerated out of Human decency - a moral act I may add, to mean they are accepted by most people, this is not so at all.
Homosexuals are tolerated because regardless of their chosen lifestyle they are fellow Human beings not animals, they are somebody's Brothers, Sisters, Friends, Neighbors, Co-workers etc, etc.
It should never have come to a vote but it did, the people spoke. By a narrow margin(not a surprise, after all it is California) they said no gay marriage .
Well apparently "we the people" have not constitutionally given right to determine Moral values for our
Comunities and Country, why vote if one's vote does not matter.
Why all the fussing and fighting, the blood, sweat and tears to give and to preserve the right to vote, if your
choice can be legaleased out by special interest and self serving authorities?
As reported by Msnbc on 8/04/10 here is what Judge Walker concluded :
"Moral disapproval alone is an improper basis on which to deny rights to gay men and lesbians. The evidence shows conclusively that Proposition 8 enacts, without reason, a private moral view that same-sex couples are inferior to opposite-sex couples," wrote Judge Walker.
"Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license," wrote U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker in a 136-page decision. "Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couple.
In his comment above he spoke disparagingly about Moral disapproval, he need to go and read the Declaration of Independence where he will find that it was because they Morally disapproved of the
King's attitude and behavior that they fought and died to create this nation.
I was not there but I bet none of those people placed their Lives on the line for "gay rights"
He also spoke negatively about private moral view, in that too he missed it.
It was not private it was a very PUBLIC vote and the people spoked loud and clear "NO to PROP 8"
As Humans we have many limitations e.g can't tell the future, but we are able to determine laws and moral values, this is what separates us from other living creature and though we do not get it right at first or all the time we still must have boundaries and lines drawn albeit physical or otherwise, that is how we Humans roll.
That is how we know, what, when, why and where.
This seemingly regional matter is a definition of where we are as a culture and how we will move forward.
It is an assault on the foundation of this Nation, its constitution (the power of your vote), its history (the founding fathers and the declaration of independence) and the moral values of the mothers and fathers raising
the future Generations.

SCRAPBOOKING.........?????
Maybe it is just me, a Jamerican living in the lonestar state of Texas but….. SCRAPbooking???????????????. What is that?..........Who does this?
Well, while cruising Ebay a few days ago I found out that Cricut was the #2 most popular searched for item there, which made me kind of curious, what exactly was a CRICUT?, was it a bird, an insect, a fish, what is a CRICUT?
At first I thought it was a typo, a miss spelling of Cricket or circuit, such a strange looking word, so missing a letter or two, sooo weird (I still think it is a weird incomplete word), yet ranked #2 on Ebay!!! How could this be I thought, so I decided to check it out.
Thus began my brief journey into the SCRAPBOOKING world, armed with my vague idea of what a Scrapbook was, bits and pieces of life’s special moments placed in a folder or binder in the form of photos, Magazine and Newspaper clippings, where the only tool or skill needed was mastery of a pair of scissors.
Back in the day a Scrapbook was a journal in pictures kept by teenage girls, mothers and grandmothers, not any more, those teenage girls are now moms. grannies and women with money to indulge their whims, fancies, and hobbies to the tune of $4 billion US greenbacks in 2009, so says Craft & Hobby Association (CHA).
According to the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) about 35 percent (about 40 million) of the 113 million U.S. households scrapbook, rubber stamp or make cards and spent approximately $4 billion in 2009 on scrapbook, “Memory Craft” and other paper crafting products. (CHA Attitude and Usage Study – 12/31/2009).
Oh yeah it is a multi-billion dollar Industry of scrapping, lignin-free, acid free, scrapper, scraplifting, faithbooking, matting, eyelets, cropping and embellishments, a World of die cutting machines, dies, and cartridges, where CRICUT roam free, it being the latest break through in Personal Electronic Cutters for paper crafting.
Words from the wise at Google.com is, Scrapping is so popular that there are now well over 1.3 million scrapbook bloggers, thousands of scrapbooking events, and dozens of magazines dedicated to scrapbooking. Many of the major cruise lines now offer special scrapbooking cruises. Tens of thousands of people across the country participate in special scrapbooking parties and retreats, called “crops,” where they get together to “scrap,” socialize with friends and family, and create new memories.
Scrapbooking is part of the important repertoire of American crafts meeting the personal, social, and health needs of millions of people each year while fueling the multi-billion dollar scrapbook segment of the craft and hobby industry,
Yes Scrapbooking is now mainstream, and it is big, very big, some say it is bigger than golf in the USA, that is to say there are more Scrappers than Golfers, which is easy for me to believe.
There you have it SCRAPBOOKING is “big time” Business, fun and therapeutic to some, hobby to others and pretty interesting and eye opening to me.
To all you Scrappers who read here at the 29th America keep getting your Scrapping on and may the SCRAPbooking Force be with you.
